Davey Havok by terylene Davey Havok by terylene
Done like usual in Adobe Illustrator, piece by painstaking piece! I got lazy with the hair and didn't blend it quite as much as the rest of him, so I may go back and fix that some time. I also didn't re-create the background from the original photo because it was complex - trying to think of something good to add back there!

Super sweet! I've becomed obssessed with this type of art since I saw A Scanner Darkly. And I absolutely love Davey Havok! I really like all the detail you put into it while still keeping it simplistic. :+fav:

Thanks everyone!!

When I do drawings like this from photos, I put the photo into the Illustrator document for reference, and so I can sample the exact colors that are in the picture. Then I layer it, dividing each important section (like skin, hair, clothing, etc). Draw the basic shapes and give them a base color. Then once I have the whole thing basically outlined, I go in and use the Gradient Mesh tool to blend and smooth out colors, make highlights and lowlights, etc! It's time consuming but it's worth it :) I could have pushed this a little furhter - maybe I'll come back to it soon!
